The IPhone is not only used as a cellular device. The Iphone can serve as a computer, camera, as well as a MP3 player, calculator, etc. The Iphone does virtually anything and has all kinds of applications.

The Iphone uses electrical energy, to make phone calls and use all the features on the iphone. The iphone also uses kinetic energy for the touch screen, because you use your fingers to touch it, which tells the phone what you want to do.

1. Ambient Light Sensor- ambient light sensors are used to adjust the brightness or darkness of your iphone's screen, accordingly to the iphone's surrounding.
2. Proximity Sensor- turns the sensors in the phone off so when you take calls it doesn't touch the screen in a way you don't want it to. The proximity sensor will turn off automatically when you lift the iphone to your ear.
3. Touch Sensors- Signals travel from the touch screen to the processor of electrical impulses
The processor analyzes the data to determine the feature of each touch
When you move your finger, the iphone's processor can determine which feature you touched by analyzing the starting point and the ending point

About the touchscreen materials:
- flexible transparent surface (screen)

- the top layer of the touchscreen, this is what you put your finger on and apply pressure on. It repels dirt and oil from your fingers, and it senses where you applied pressure.
-transparent conductive layer
- This layer allows "multi touch". When you touch it, the circuit is complete and allows the command you entered ( lets say clicking on an application) to work. It only works when something conductive (like your finger) touches it.
-The LCD layer
- This is the visual part. This is the part that lights up the phone and makes you able to view everything on the phone.
- The glass layer is what holds and keeps the layers together and safe

How Iphone touchscreen works

The iphone is basically made of several different layers
1.LCD display layers- LCD stands for liquid crystal display. This is a flat panel made up of color pixels filled with liquid crystals put in front of a light source or a backlight. These LCD layers are scratch resistant and respond to heat. So using a stylus will not work.
2. Different types of glass are included in the materials of an iphone as well
3. Several sensing circuits, for the touch screen on the phone
4. Protective coating layers on the top

Radio Waves
  • The main scientific principle of an Iphone is radio waves
  • Radio waves are electromagnetic magnetic waves
  • The iphone broadcasts signals on radio frequencies
  • Radio waves send electrical energy between two places without using wires
  • All radio waves have a certain length, frequency, and speed
  • The speed is how fast the wave moves between two places, the frequency is the number of waves that arrive each second, and the length is the distance between one wave peak and the next
