Purpose
The purpose of a digital camera is to take a video or still photograph by taking light and converting that into electrical patterns. However, I am here to also partly discuss the CCD inside of the camera that converts the light into electricity. This is the most important part of a digital camera.

Energy

The CCD in the camera which creates the picture converts light into electricity.

What is CCD ?

The CCD is part of the camera, and found inside the camera.
The CCD contains a certain number of capacitors linked.
The CCD is one of the main elements of the camera. Since the cdd contains photoelectric cells which have the image, and from that part of the image is precessed to the memory of the camera.

Controls

There are:
--Zoom Buttons; These are buttons that let you zoom in or out on a particular focus.
--Trash Button; This button lets you delete photos or videos from your camera.
--Switch Buttons; There are two buttons, or a switch, that lets you maneuver between the view of taking a picture and your library.
--Menu Button; There is a button that brings you to a Menu that is set up with your specific camera. It is usually the same in most cameras, just a list of settings and options.
--Volume Button; There is usually also a volume button somewhere on the camera to let you hear your video playback.
--Directional Pad; There is a directional pad on almost all digital cameras. It is just a circular pad of four directional arrows and in the middle, there is an OK button. This helps you to use the camera. It also offers many options to adjust the picture setting just by pressing a direction.
--Shutter Button; This is the button which takes the picture. It is almost always on top of the camera.

Materials

In a digital camera, you need the lens, a CCD or CMOS, the screen, a power source (usually some sort of batteries), and a USB Cord.
For the flash of a digital camera, it involves three main parts. This would include:

  • Small battery
    • Power supply
  • Gas discharge tube
    • Produces actual flash
    • Tube filled with xenon gas
    • Electrodes on either end
    • Metal trigger plate in middle
    • Looks like neon/fluorescent light
  • Circuit
    • Connects power supply to discharge tube

Design

A typical digital camera looks like a slim rectangle. The back of the camera is a screen and maybe a few buttons. The top of the camera has a few buttons, along with the button that takes the pictures. The front of the camera has the lens, most are retractable.

Evolution

The evolution of digital cameras started with two men named Willard Boyle and George E. Smith in 1969 at AT&T Bell Labs. They made the device known as the CCD, which is what goes into the digital camera. This is what takes the pictures and is able to display them. Without this device, you would never have been able to make the digital camera. Before the digital camera, when all we had were film cameras, it was very tedious. You used to have to go to a store and wait to get your pictures developed and you would never know how they turned out when you took them so you most likely had a lot of useless pictures. With a digital camera, as soon as you click the button, you can see exactly what you took a picture of and decide whether or not you want to keep it. Also, you can upload these pictures directly to your computer to send to family and friends or post online. You can also choose which pictures you want to print instead of printing them all.
